| him name: Dead Boy was seventeen. He'd been seventeen for over thirty years, ever since he was murdered. I knew his story. Everybody did. He was killed in a random mugging, because such things do happen, even here in the Nightside. Clubbed to death in the street, for his credit cards and the spare change in his pockets. He bled to death on the pavement, while people stepped over and around him, not wanting to get involved. And that should have been it. But he came back from the dead, filled with fury and unnatural energies, to track down and kill the street trash who murdered him. They died, one by one, and did not rise again. Perhaps after all the awful things Dead Boy had done to them, Hell seemed like a relief. But though they were all dead and gone long ago, Dead Boy went on, still walking the Nightside, trapped by the deal he made. Who'd you make your deal with? He was often asked. Who do you think? he always replied. - from "Nightingale's Lament", the third novel of the Nightside, by Simon R. Green bio name: Dead Boy age: about 47, give or take a few years (the exact count is 49, but he wouldn't tell you). appears to be 17 sexuality: bisexual appearance: For being of the not-so-recently-deceased, Dead Boy still manages to look decent in a sulky, teenaged sort of way. He has unnaturally-pale skin, offset by long, dark hair, fever-bright eyes and a pouty mouth with absolutely no colour to it. His body is kept at a permanently adolescent-thin stage, which gives him long, (occasionally) graceful limbs and a cold, weary sort of face. His most constant trait is the fact that he almost always looks like he just woke up from a very, very good night (which is more often than not true). Because he is the revived dead, Dead Boy doesn't heal, and due to a complete lack of self preservation, is forever stitching, stapling, and supergluing his corpse-pale flesh together. He always has a roll of duct tape on him as well, for emergencies. Dead Boy's most common outfit is comprised of an open, dark purple greatcoat over black leather pants and calfskin boots. His accessories often include black roses (pinned either to his coat or his bare skin), black leather gloves, and a floppy black hat. abilities&traits: Dead Boy is unearthly strong, as he doesn't feel pain at all. In fact, he doesn't feel much of anything-- he doesn't need to eat, drink, or even sleep, and cannot experience the lightest sensations, like a breeze or a gentle touch. Only certain substances get to him, and because of that, he's practically addicted to the pills a "little old Obeah woman" makes for him. Now that he's dead, he's obsessed with feeling something, even if it's not something entirely pleasant, and because of that, he spends a good chunk of time at the Pit (the infamous demon-owned S&M joint in Uptown). Even if he can't feel pain, he can trick himself into believing he can. He is also immune to mortal diseases, and can be a bit of an adrenaline junkie at times. |
| persona Like most of the Nightside's residents, Dead Boy is a little strange personality-wise. Like one would expect, dying had a few negative effects-- but Dead Boy was a special case. No one knows who he made his ungodly deal with, and because of that, the details of the contract were a little sketchy. He came back living, but he was not, nor would he ever be, truly alive again. Oftentimes he feels distanced from the rest of the world, unable to connect both physically and mentally with other people due to all he's been through. He is impulsive, with absolutely no sense of self-preservation or foresight, and very hard to get along with at times. However, flaws aside, Dead Boy tries not to let the whole "being dead" thing get him down. In fact, he's one of the Nightside's most reputable clubbers-- he spends his time anywhere from Divas! to the Pit, and everywhere in between too. He drinks, he smokes, he does drugs that sometimes don't even have names attached to them yet, and happens to be the Nightside's leading experts on all things death-related. He's also the owner/companion of one futuristic alien car, who ended up in the Nightside due to a Timeslip, and happened to take a liking to him. (Said car is known for having a nasty sense of humor and absolutely no conscience.) All in all, Dead Boy is a fun, lively person to be around when he's not brooding, who does good deeds because they're his only shot at breaking the confines of his deal, and is hopelessly loyal to the people he calls friends. notes Dead Boy and the Nightside were created and are owned by the very talented Simon R. Green. Ville Valo, whose pictures I'm using, owns himself. This journal is for roleplay use (frequenting Dead Boy is played by |
